Your money contributes towards funding our life-changing services such as Live at Home, Music Therapy and Chaplaincy that make a huge difference to older people like Lawrence.
Had it not have been for Live at Home, it is likely that the television would of been Lawrence Neal's main form of company, just like 3.9 million other older people living across the UK. However, with the intervention of Live at Home, Lawrence is able to socialise with other like-minded human beings in his own community and, by doing so, is free from loneliness - an issue that can lead to mental health problems like depression, stress, and a lack of self-esteem.
Talking about the benefits of the scheme, Lawrence commented: “Live at Home has made such a difference to my life. I live alone and don’t have immediate family close by, but the friends I have now, I met at Live at Home.
“I would be very isolated without it; I think my body would deteriorate faster than it would otherwise. The company is appreciated. On Thursday's I get out, I don’t have to cook, we have a two course meal with coffee and then quizzes, talks and activities – that’s a good day!
“We have lunch clubs, fundraising events, trips out – we recently went to a local farm. There’s also a men’s group every month. It keeps your mind active, and keeps you talking to other people.
“The volunteers work so hard, and everyone at the club is lovely. These are the people I can call friends now.”
With your support, we can reduce loneliness in later life for even more isolated older people like Lawrence.
