Pamela's Story...

Your money contributes towards funding our life-changing services such as Live at Home, Music Therapy and Chaplaincy that make a huge difference to older people like Pamela.

For many years, Pamela Green struggled to leave the house due to her disability, leading her to feel very lonely and isolated. After hearing about Live at Home, Pamela got in touch with her local scheme and her life has never been the same since - in her words, Live at Home has literally changed her life! She now attends weekly social groups run by the scheme and takes advantage of the assisted shopping service allowing her to live a more fulfilled and active life.

Discussing the support Live at Home offers, Pamela said: “How would I describe Live at Home? As my lifesaver. I would be at sea without it.

“I’m disabled and can’t walk very well; it’s extremely difficult to get out and go anywhere. Before I joined Live at Home, there had been another lunch club but it ceased. And I had been sinking into oblivion.

“I was very, very lonely. If I got up at all I didn’t get washed or dressed; why would I? I had nowhere to go and nowhere to be, and if I had I couldn’t have got there anyway. I couldn’t think of a reason to live.

“But after I joined Live at Home, it was as though my prayers had been answered. It changed my life 100%. I can get a minibus to take me there and back, and once I’m there, I’m in a beautiful room with lots of windows and light, and people I can talk to.

“We eat together, have a laugh and have activities afterwards – I’m very good at the soap opera questions in the quizzes! The staff and volunteers are amazing, so obliging. And something else I like is that unlike a lot of other places, the tea and coffee refills are included in the price, so we’re not charged extra.

“Unfortunately when I have my leg dressings changed twice a week I have to stay in all day as I don’t know when the carers will be arriving. But I go on outings when I can, and to the assisted shopping trips to the supermarket, provided through the Live at Home scheme.

“Live at Home stops people like me sinking into oblivion because they’ve got nothing better to do. It has been a godsend and has saved my life. I want to thank everyone who has anything to do with it.”

With your support, we can reduce loneliness in later life for even more isolated older people like Pamela.
