Heather Wells takes on the London Marathon

As a musician and local church rep herself, Heather Wells felt passionate about fundraising for MHA’s Music Therapy Appeal - and what better way to achieve this than by taking on her long-held ambition of running the Virgin Money London Marathon.

As race day arrived, Heather joined thousands of other runners at Greenwich Park on 23 April 2017 to begin pounding the streets of the English capital in this unparalleled 26.2 mile race. Reaching the finish line in an astonishing time of 05:09:15, she raised raised a fantastic total of £4,000 to help improve the wellbeing of those living with dementia.

Running the London Marathon was a dream come true for me and to do it for MHA made it even more special. Having worked in the dementia arena previously I know the benefits of the amazing work MHA does in this area - a cause very close to my heart," Heather said.

"I am particularly keen to support the music therapy service that they provide for dementia residents. I play in a local band so know the power of music and I also saw the wonderful effect music had on my grandmother before she passed away.

"I’ve arranged lots of fundraising events to raise the £4,000 including a barn dance, bake sale and a gym open day. The MHA team have supported me every step of the way and really helped motivate me to reach my target.”
